History

1950

The Hamburg “Quartiersleute” can look back on a tradition lasting over two hundredyears. Our company was founded in 1950 on the 1st of January by Werner Bruhns (1921 – 1988).

Primarily the operation started with two floors and one employee at Sandtorkai in the historical warehouse district of Hamburg (“Speicherstadt”). Very soon, Werner Bruhns specialized in storing and processing of dried fruits and spices.

1958

In 1958, we moved to the rebuilt warehouse at Brook 5. For almost five decades, we stayed in the warehouse district Speicherstadt with its unique room conditions for the storage of raw foodstuff.

1997

Michael Bruhns, who joined the company in 1983, was able to carry out the relocation to the new built warehouse Afrikastraße 1 with the most modern storage technology and very similar room conditions to the pre-used warehouse district.

2001

The plant was extended in 2001 with a new storage facility including 1600 additional pallets. At the end of the year the new steam sterilization system was completed.
